Actually, my experience with the K2 and its numerous holes in the rear cover may be of interest. I have seen (and repaired) many K2s, some with holes in the rear panel that were not covered. On some of them, the exterior looked like it had gone through some hard times, but the interior look pristine despite the open holes in the rear panel.
So to those who have no cover plastic strip for your P3 unused holes, I can predict that no real harm will come if you leave it off, even for years, but OTOH, yes it is nice to cover unused holes "just because", and if you have been promised covers for those holes, you will get them in due time.
