Hey everyone,

I was wondering if you guys could help me out with a little snag I'm having
with my new Edubuntu setup. I'm rolling out 14 Edubuntu labs this summer to our
elementary schools, as a replacement for the K12LTSP labs we had. To keep the
interface as similar to the one that the labs had previously with IceWM, I
decided to go with a locked down KDE profile using the KDE Kiosk Tool. Now the
switch to KDE from gnome has caused a few issues. At first I could not get the
Thin-Client-Manager working with the clients anymore. I was able to see the
thumbnails of the clients (x11vnc was working), but I was unable to send
messages, execute programs, or blank screens. I solved these issues by adding
the scp-client and the gnome-screensaver to the kde start script. This fixed
all three issues. I should note that I have never seen the share screen
function work (in Gnome or KDE). This leads me to the two snags I have left.
The first snag is that local devices, specifically usb drives, do not show on
the desktop (or anywhere) when connected. If I switch back to Gnome without
changing any other settings (or even restarting the thinclient) the device
shows on the desktop and works perfectly. So I'm wondering if there is some
sort of script that Gnome has running in the background that accomplishes this,
and if so what and where is it? If not, what could I do to fix this issue?
The second snag is the volume control. In gnome this works fine on the thin
clients but again in KDE it's not. I assume this means that the gnome
mixer_applet2 is a modified version of the standard non-edubuntu mixer applet.
What needs to be done to run this in KDE? If it can't be, what work needs to be
done to the KDE mixer applet to get it working as well?
Thanks in advance for your help guys, I'm so close to having this all setup I
can almost taste it.
