The Edubuntu Council (@amypenguin [4] and @eeickmeyer [5]) is pleased
to announce Edubuntu 25.04 Beta, codenamed “Plucky Puffin”. While it is
free of any showstopper installer bugs and is representative of what
will be the final release, bugs will be found within.
Desktop (amd64) and Raspberry Pi 5 (arm64+raspi) Images may be

New Features
 * This release includes GNOME 48.
 * For Qt-based/KDE apps, we now include theming via Kvantum, mostly as
a workaround for the inability to change the accent color in those
applications. This theme is based on GNOME’s libadwaita, on which
the default Ubuntu theme (Yaru) is based. Unfortunately, the colors
don’t automatically change if you change them in Settings, so if you
want a uniform look to the accent color, you’ll have to change it in
   Kvantum Manager.
 * GNOME Notes is dead upstream. For that reason, we have switched to
   the resurrected GNote.
 * Likewise, GNOME Dictionary is also dead upstream. We have replaced
it with Artha, which is more of a thesaurus but does dictionary
   operations as well.

Known Issues
 * Upon first boot, the system will reboot. This is normal, and is the
mechanism to set the logo for the login screen.
 * The Ubuntu welcome app branding does not match Edubuntu. We’re
working on ways to resolve this,  [1]and next cycle it looks like
we’ll likely have a fluter-based welcome application to
   replace gnome-initial-setup.
 * On the Raspberry Pi, the first login will have the Ubuntu logo as
opposed to the Edubuntu logo [2].
 * As Edubuntu shares a desktop with and is based on Ubuntu Desktop,
any known issues can be found in the official Ubuntu Release Notes 1
   [3].
 * Individual applications included with Edubuntu may have their own
known issues. Please consult upstream release notes for those
   applications before filing bug reports.
