Thanks, I'll look into that, I didn't realise it was a general Linux issue, i thought it was something particular to Edubuntu.  For me as a person that have always used the Other Operating System, it is not yet completely clear how Edubuntu/Ubuntu and Linux works together, but thanks for pointing it out, next time I will also search on other sites, too.

Did you try passing acpi=off to the kernel at initial boot time? All
google hits for the above phrase point in that direction.
