I don't use synaptic myself (and i'm not behind a proxy server which requires authentication), but the standard form for indicating user/pass for a proxy server is: http://[[user][:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:port]/ so i think in synaptic, you'd choose Settings|Preferences, and then the Network tab from that dialog, and put the username and password into the "host" box, along with the proxy server's address.
