An alternative way to install Edubuntu is to install Ubuntu server and then install the Edubuntu desktop with 'apt-get install edubuntu- desktop'. I think I found this tip on the Edubuntu wiki. Google or search the wiki for 'apt-get install edubuntu-desktop'.
