For those who don't know, my name is Simón A. Ruiz, and I'm the Technology Assistant and resident Linux geek here at Bloomington High School North.

Through a State-funded intiative, North was offered a grant that paid for computers and desks for 4 1:1 computing English classrooms. The program is based on research that suggests that students in such an environment write more, write better, and are more engaged in class.

We now have 126 (122 student, 4 teacher) Edubuntu Linux workstations out in 4 English classrooms, and have just been awarded a second grant (from the same Access Indiana project) to outfit 5 more 30-station classrooms in our English department.

So, all powers willing, we should have--by the end of September 2006--9 1:1 computing classrooms here, with a total of approximately 270 student Linux workstations deployed.

WooHoo!
