It looks like, while attempting to apply the Edubuntu logo to the GDM screen, it couldn't find GDM (or the gdm user), which wouldn't work on Ubuntu Unity (as is your case). Simply needs some sort of failsafe in the postint script. Honestly, applying the Plymouth theme to a non-Gnome system wasn't really a supported use case.
