Public bug reported: I am using Ubuntu 17.10 (I have both Ubuntu and Xubuntu installed) and I've noticed that calibre doesn't provide any desktop entries at /usr/share/applications, so the application is not shown in desktop's menu or as a choice to open an epub file with it.
If I'm not mistaken, I remember that at the previous releases, desktop entries existed for both Calibre and Ebook-Viewer. Hope, this get fixed before the final Ubuntu 17.10 release (if this change is an upstream thing, then maybe you can add those desktop entries manually in the package?).
