As I see it, you have 3 options:
1. Add constraints to user input fields - either through the actual program, or regular expressions, or database triggers. 2. Batch process that runs periodically to clean up your database. 3. Pre-process your file that is input to the EDI translator: either through a "pipe-line stage" if that feature is available; or a script that will strip those characters. We have customer service people all over the place and just asking them to not use several reserved characters has not worked. I was wondering what other methods have been utilized to solve or at least mitigate this issue.
