Write to all your elected governmental representatives from the governor on up.  Here's one site with suggestions about how to do that:

I think the US Senate offices are still taking e-mail, as I wrote to my Colorado Senators a few days ago.  You can also call their offices.  I don't know whether the White House is accepting comments, but you can call or e-mail: https://www.whitehouse.gov/get-involved/write-or-call/

You could also contact your professional organizations (e.g., the Ecological Society of America), tell them your story, and ask them to contact the President and Congress on behalf of members like yourself.

Letters to the editor of the local newspapers can also be effective.
