PhD position: Marine Mussel Bed Restoration The Institute of Marine Science at the University of Auckland in New Zealand (http://www.marine.auckland.ac.nz/en/about/our-institute.html) is seeking a PhD student with an interest in the development of more effective methods for restoring marine mussel beds on the New Zealand coast (http://www.reviveourgulf.org.nz/).
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and well organised PhD student to experimentally develop advanced methods for restoring mussel beds, lost through over fishing last century. The research for the PhD involves working with community groups, mussel aquaculture industry and Maori tribal interests in achieving the restoration goal. Applicants must have a good academic record (GPA > 3.0), strong written and verbal communication skills, possess prior marine field work experience, a a working knowledge of strong experimental design, be SCUBA certified (or willing to get certified), and enjoy the challenge of working to make a difference for our marine environment. The PhD position includes full tuition fees scholarship and a tax-free annual living stipend of NZ$27,500 and research costs fully covered.
