Marine Aquarist

We are seeking a motivated, out-going Marine Aquarist to join our team 
of dedicated conservationists in our innovative Fish Lab. The right 
candidate will specialize in ornamental fish breeding (especially 
clownfish) and will be keen to research and extend their knowledge on 
maintenance and breeding of different species in aquarium settings.

Daily work at the Fish Lab 

•       Work as part of a team to maintain all aspects of the Fish Lab 
Programme, including: ornamental fish breeding, plankton culture, marine 
aquarium, touch pool and a jellyfish tank and breeding system.
General
•       Provide information, Conduct guided snorkelling trips, guest 
excursions and marine life briefings/presentations.
•       Explain and promote our Reefscapers projects to guests, visiting 
journalists and tour operators.
•       Assist with all environmental activities including coral 
propagation, turtle rehabilitation, outreach programmes.
•       Attend meetings and present at local seminars; train and 
supervise our apprentices, interns and volunteers.
•       Photograph and document marine life; collect data and perform 
data entry.
•       Produce reports (in English) for monthly reports, use on 
websites and social media.
•       Additional tasks and responsibilities as and when required.
Candidate Specification
•       BSc/MSc qualifications in a relevant discipline (Marine Biology, 
Aquaculture, etc.).
•       Experience in marine conservation and research, ideally gained 
in a tropical country preffered.
•       Knowledge and experience of marine aquaculture, aquaria 
maintenance and tropical marine ecosystems.
•       Good written and spoken English (extra languages desirable) and 
experience in public-facing roles.
•       Sociable team player, able to support and educate colleagues; 
ability to work creatively and problem-solve.
•       Confident swimmer with SCUBA certification.
•       Physically fit non-smoker, able to spend long hours in the ocean 
and tropical environment.
•       Computer skills a bonus (mapping software, programming, 
databases).

Salary and Benefits

•       The salary for this position is $1000 USD per month (plus a 
small commission).
•       Working hours 09:00 to 18:00 with occasional evenings; 6 days 
(one off day) per week; 36 days’ annual leave.
•       Basic DAN dive insurance (sports diver bronze). 
•       Uniform; staff canteen meals; shared same-sex staff 
accommodation.
•       Annual return home flight, plus one return flight after six 
months (from Maldives to a regional international hub).
•       High standards of dress code and behaviour are expected (details 
provided upon selection). This includes maintaining a professional 
appearance and a helpful attitude towards resort guests and fellow 
staff.
