Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies & Sustainability

Position: The Department of Earth, Environmental, and Geographical Sciences 
at Northern Michigan University invites applications for a tenure-track 
Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies & Sustainability to begin in 
August, 2019. We are interested in candidates with expertise in urban and 
regional planning and sustainable community development to support the 
increasing demand for sustainability curriculum. This is a campus-based 
position.

Duties and Responsibilities: Teach courses that complement the Department's 
curriculum, publish environmental studies and sustainability focused 
research, and complete departmental, university and professional service.

Minimum Qualifications: Required minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. 
granted by August, 2019, an active scholarly agenda, and a publication 
record in Geography, Urban & Regional Studies, Planning, Community 
Development, Environmental Studies, or a closely related field. Demonstrated 
teaching experience and a strong commitment to provide excellent 
undergraduate instruction and advising.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Ability to teach courses such as 
Introduction to Sustainability, Introduction to Geographic Research, 
Economic Geography, Urban Geography, Regional Studies, and new courses 
related to community and sustainable development. Ability to produce 
scholarship related to environmental studies and sustainability.

Additional Desirable Qualifications: Additional desirable qualifications 
include the ability to engage students in applied solutions to global 
environmental challenges; international expertise in the developing world; 
an applied research focus on food systems, urban or regional sustainability, 
or economic development.
