A collaborative PhD opportunity is available with the University of Queensland
(UQ) and
the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), a new university
in
Shenzhen, China. The student will work with Professor Richard Fuller from UQ
and
Associate Professor Luke Gibson and Research Assistant Professor Jimmy Choi
from
SUSTech.

The research project will focus on how migrating bird species respond to
climate change
and/or land-use change along different migration routes. Multiple closely
related species
or multiple populations of the same species will be selected, and will be
studied using
geolocators and/or ICARUS satellite tags. Funding has already been secured for
this
project.

The PhD will commence in September 2019. The first two years will be spent at
UQ, and
the final two years will be spent at SUSTech. Stipend is 27,000 AUD per year.
Tuition at
UQ is covered; tuition at SUSTech is 10,000 CNY (~2,000 AUD) per year. The
resulting
PhD degree will be awarded by UQ.

Applicants must have:
1. A Master’s degree in ecology or related field (or, in special circumstances,
a Bachelor’s
degree with Honors)
2. previous field experience surveying birds (e.g., mist-netting, individual
marking)

Please send a cover letter describing a brief research plan, a CV including a
full list of
publications, and contact information for three references to
biodivers...@sustc.edu.cn.
Application deadline is November 15, 2018.
