Dr. George Newcombe's forest pathology lab at the University of Idaho
(Moscow, ID) is looking for a highly motivated MS student to start in
late May 2019. The selected individual will contribute to a DOE-funded
project investigating the role of gene dosage in hybrid poplar
resistance to pathogens (such as rust and leaf spot). The project will
involve raising poplar trees in the greenhouse, conducting controlled
inoculations, and collecting phenotypic data. The student will also be
involved with an additional ongoing NSF-funded project investigating
endophyte-mediated resistance in Western white pine to the white pine
blister rust. An optional teaching assistant opportunity for an
undergraduate Forest Pathology class exists as well.

The position is fully funded for two years and includes paid tuition, a
competitive stipend, and health insurance. More information regarding
