The Ecology Program Area at San Diego State University welcomes applications for its MS and PhD programs. The Ecology Program Area offers a vibrant environment for graduate students and has a strong track record of post-graduate job placement in academic, government, NGO, and private organizations. Faculty research interests are diverse but include three focal areas: Conservation & Restoration Ecology, Coastal Marine Ecology, and Ecosystem Ecology, Global Change & Sustainability. Student researchers work both in the diverse San Diego bioregion and further afield at national and international locations.
PhD Program: The Joint Doctoral Program in Ecology (JDPE) is run jointly with the Ecology Graduate Group at UC Davis and gives students the opportunity to take coursework at both universities, with a major advisor at SDSU and a mentor at UC Davis. Flexible teaching assistantships provide students with stipends and tuition remission. Details of the program and contacts for general inquiries are available at: http://www.bio.sdsu.edu/eco/prog_phd.php MS Program: The ecology MS program allows students to contribute and design research that advances the science of Ecology and provides answers to real world questions. The integration of basic and applied research also provides students with experience valuable for a diversity of future employment opportunities. The program emphasizes quantitative approaches and the framing of problems within the context of ecological theory. Teaching assistantships are available on a competitive basis. Program details and contact for inquiries are available at: http://www.bio.sdsu.edu/eco/prog_ms.php Prospective students are encouraged to contact a potential advisor prior to applying to either program. Application deadlines are Dec. 15, 2018 (PhD program) and Feb. 1, 2019 (MS program) for students intending to start in Fall 2019.
