Post-doctoral Researcher in Population Ecology and Biological Control of Invasive Forest Insects
Job Summary: The Department of Environmental Conservation at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scientist in the Population Dynamics and Biological Control of Invasive Forest Insects. The incumbent will work with Dr. Joe Elkinton from UMASS Amherst, where the positon will be based, and with Dr. Jian Duan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agriculture Research Service in Newark Delaware. Specific field-based research projects will involve Asian longhorned beetle, gypsy moth and emerald ash borer. More details on our work can be found on my lab website: https://elkintonlab.wordpress.com/ Primary responsibilities will include development and execution of statistically sound field–based experimental studies, writing of peer-reviewed articles, communication of findings in reports and at professional meetings, development of grant proposals, and management of existing research projects. We place great emphasis on doing whatever we can to help young scientists launch their careers. Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in ecology, entomology, forest science, or a closely related field, experience with ecological field work in population ecology, expertise with ecological models and statistical analyses using R, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Prior success in working with teams and a strong track record of peer-reviewed publication are essential. Application Details: This position is based at the Amherst campus of the University of Massachusetts and may involve occasional traveling to Dr Duan’s research lab at Newark, Delaware. It includes competitive salary (minimum $47,500/yr depending on prior experience) and health benefits. This is a full-time, 12-month, 2-yr position. Reappointment is available for subsequent years conditional on satisfactory performance and funding.
