School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA)
INDIANA UNIVERSITY-BLOOMINGTON CAMPUS

Conservation biology
Associate or Full Professor

The School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) at Indiana University is
searching for a senior scholar with a specialty in Conservation Biology and a
record of scholarship commensurate with appointment at Indiana University as a
tenured associate or full professor. The search is part of Indiana University's
Grand Challenge, Prepared for Environmental Change (for a full description, see
grandchallenges.iu.edu/environmental-change/index.html<https://grandchallenges.iu.edu/environmental-change/index.html>).
The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate degree, a strong record
of extramural funding, a distinguished record of scholarship and publication in
the field of conservation biology, and a demonstrated ability to communicate
technical research to non-specialists. The faculty member will be expected to
attract funding to support a vibrant research program including training of
doctoral students. We are particularly interested in candidates with a research
program that addresses interdisciplinary aspects of environmental change and
adaption.

Founded in 1972, SPEA was the first school to combine public policy,
management, and administration with environmental science. The School is
committed to excellence in research, teaching, and service addressing critical
issues in environmental science, policy and management
(www.indiana.edu/~spea/research/index.shtml<http://www.indiana.edu/~spea/research/index.shtml>).
Presently, SPEA ranks first in the nation in environmental policy and
management in U.S. News and World Report. As part of the Prepared for
Environmental Change program, the successful candidate will join 16 other new
faculty hires as well as existing faculty across campus, as part of a community
of scholars with a shared interest in understanding and adapting to
environmental change. The Environmental Research Institute
(eri.iu.edu<http://eri.iu.edu>), part of the Prepared for Environmental Change
program, facilitates research, collaboration, and communication among these
faculty and a large cadre of postdocs and doctoral students. The faculty member
will also have access to the facilities and extensive properties of the IU
Research and Teaching Preserve
(www.indiana.edu/~preserve/index.shtml<http://www.indiana.edu/~preserve/index.shtml>).

For full consideration, submit a letter of application, curriculum vita with
contact information, and complete contact information for at least three
professional references at https://indiana.peopleadmin.com/ by November 1,
2018. Applications should include a research statement (as part of the cover
letter or separate from it), which should include a discussion of how the
candidate's research can contribute to the Prepared for Environmental Change
research program.

We are especially interested in applicants with a record of successful teaching
and mentoring of students from all backgrounds (including first-generation
college students, low-income students, racial and ethnic minorities, women,
LGBTQ, etc.) and an interest in contributing to SPEA's programs, curricular
offerings, and research portfolio in ways that enhance diversity, equity, and
inclusion; applicants are encouraged to address these topics in the letter of
application.
