Hello Everyone,
The Coastal Carbon Research Coordination Network (CCRCN) is pleased to announce that we are now accepting applicants for two topical working groups. These working groups are the first of a five-part series to take place over the next five years, each of which will focus on targeted aspects of reducing uncertainty, networking skills, and improving techniques related to the science of coastal wetland carbon (blue carbon). Working group members will commit to remote collaboration in the months leading up to a two-day workshop, and are expected to contribute at the level of co-author to 1-2 culminating papers. The first two working groups are as follows: 1. Improved measuring, reporting, modeling, and mapping of soil carbon burial rates and carbon stocks in coastal wetlands Time and Location: December 8 and 9 (before AGU), hosted at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Edgewater, Maryland 2. Improved process modeling and mapping of tidal wetlands methane emissions Timing: December 2019 Participants are encouraged to use this as an opportunity to advance their own research interests by taking on leadership roles and even writing their own first author papers splitting off from the main exercise. Travel funding will be provided for in-person workshops. Unfortunately funding for non-U.S. based collaborators is very limited. To become a working group participant, we ask that you fill out this survey https://serc.si.edu/coastalcarbon/working-group-application indicating your ranked preferences and what you would provide to those working groups. We encourage all to apply, expecting a diverse assembly from a variety of specialties and career stages. The survey will remain open indefinitely, however we will begin considering applicants for our working group 1 on Thursday, July 12th. Please get in touch if you have any questions or comments. Coastal Carbon RCN @CoastalCarbon<http://twitter.com/coastalcarbon> | http://serc.si.edu/coastalCarbon<http://serc.si.edu/coastalcarbon> The goal of the Coastal Wetland Carbon Research Coordination Network is to accelerate the pace of discovery in coastal carbon science. The Network accomplishes this by (1) developing a community dedicated to coastal wetland carbon science for basic research, policy development, and management, (2) exploring the ecological links between coastal wetlands, estuaries, and the atmosphere, and (3) sharing data and analysis tools that support the diverse needs of scientists, policy makers and managers.
