Dear colleagues, We would like to draw your attention to our AGU session on "Global Vegetation and Land Surface Dynamics in a Changing Climate" at the AGU 2018 Fall Meeting (Washington, D.C | 10-14 December, 2018). Please see the session details below.
Abstracts can be submitted here: https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm18/prelim.cgi/Session/49837. All abstract submissions must be received by 1 August 2018 at 23:59 ET (11:59 P.M. EST) through the submission site. Thank you! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Session ID: 49837 Session Title: GC056. Global Vegetation and Land Surface Dynamics in a Changing Climate Section/Focus Group: Global Environmental Change View Session Details: https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm18/prelim.cgi/Session/49837 Session Description: Changes in vegetation biomass have multiple drivers, including natural ecosystem variability, climate changes, and anthropogenic activities. Historically, clearing of native ecosystems for agriculture has dominated these vegetation transitions, but there is growing evidence of ecosystem change in response to shifting rainfall and climate regimes, seasonality, and even CO2 fertilization effects. Future climate changes and intensifying land management will bring additional, interactive changes to natural and managed ecosystems. Managing these systems requires understanding the multiscale drivers of these vegetation dynamics, the mechanisms by which they operate, and how they change over time. This session invites submissions from diverse perspectives, including observed, empirical, and process-based modeling approaches. Talks will examine vegetation trends and identify the critical scales, mechanisms, and feedbacks driving vegetation and land surface dynamics in a changing climate. We will emphasize emerging trends, vegetation responses to ecosystem change, and outstanding uncertainties to direct future data collection efforts and model development.
