The Hummingbird Monitoring Network (HMN), based in Patagonia, Arizona,
is seeking prospective postdocs interested in pursuing joint funding for
research related to the ecology and conservation of hummingbirds. We
seek postdoc collaborators with strong backgrounds in avian ecology,
plant-animal interactions, macro-ecology, and/or modeling who wish to
pursue postdoc funding through organizations such as NSF or the Smith
Conservation Fellowship program. The postdoc would help develop our
research program and would have access to data we have collected,
primarily a field dataset shared by HMN and Universidad Nacional
Autónoma de México that spans 7 years, 12 study sites, and includes data
from point counts, floral counts, nest searches, and vegetation
structure. The postdoc would also co-author papers associated with our
monitoring and audio migration studies. The postdoc could build a topic
around using previously collected data and/or collecting additional
data. Other benefits to the postdoc of pursuing joint funding with HMN
include interaction with a large network of scientists, university
faculty, and conservation practitioners in the US, Ecuador, Mexico, and
Canada, and the opportunity to mentor student from the US and abroad.

HMN has published articles in high-impact journals such as Ecosphere,
Science Advances, and Royal Society Open Sciences. We regularly give
talks at conferences including North American Ornithological
Conferences, Partners In Flight, and Neotropical Ornithological
Conference. Interested prospective postdocs should reach out early so a
fellowship topic can be developed in conjunction with HMN scientists and
conservation practitioners. If you are interested in pursuing funding
together, please contact Susan Wethington at sweth...@dakotacom.net with
a CV. We look forward to hearing from you!
