Post-Doctoral Research Associate/Project Manager Beers CM-SIR Project
Posting Date: June 11, 2018 PI: Dr. Elizabeth Beers Location: WSU-TFREC, Wenatchee, WA This position will support the research and outreach activities of an integrated pest management program on apples in Washington State. The incumbent will work as part of a collaboration that includes Okanagan-Kootenay Sterile Insect Release Program, Dr. Larry Gut’s lab at Michigan State University, M3 Consulting, and NCW Fieldmen. The incumbent will lead a new project exploring the use of sterile codling moths in Washington apple orchards and will perform a wide range of duties including field and laboratory work, data analysis, grant management and reporting, and participation in outreach activities. The incumbent will be responsible for carrying the objectives of the grant in consultation with the supervisor, Extension personnel, and industry groups. This project will require a high degree of communication with collaborating research groups, ag producers and consultants. The incumbent will manage the project including overseeing student workers, organizing trials, and working with collaborators. Specific activities will include monitoring apple blocks, gathering data on arthropod pests and natural enemies, entering data, summarizing/analyzing results, and communicating those results with industry. Other required activities include preparing written reports and giving oral presentations. Experimental and analytical skills, precision, reliability, understanding and knowledge of research theory, excellent organizational skills are required. While the position is based in Wenatchee (WSU Tree Fruit Research & Extension Center), duties may include routine overnight travel to research plots during the field season, and intermittently during the off-season for meetings.
