The Biology Department is recruiting for a Visiting Assistant Professor for the 
2018-2019 academic year. The department is seeking a dynamic, experienced 
instructor to teach two courses: Principles of Biology and Ecology or 
Evolution. Review of applicants and requests for interviews will begin 
immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The posting will 
close on Friday, June 29, 2018.


Instructional Responsibilities:

The Visiting Assistant Professor's primary responsibilities will be to teach 
two courses that are listed below.  Each of the instruction responsibilities 
are core courses for our Biology majors

  *   Principles of Biology, our introductory course for biology and allied 
health majors. This is a two-semester sequence with a class section size of 
approximately 40 students. The person filling this position will teach one 
lecture section each semester, will work closely with other department faculty, 
and will use a common syllabus. Additionally, this person will instruct 
multiple sections of the Principles of Biology laboratory each semester.  
Significant support from laboratory staff is available.
  *   The second course depends on the expertise of the applicant with 
preference given to those who could teach Ecology or Evolution and the 
associated lab for each course. Each of these is a core course for our Biology 
majors. Ecology is at the sophomore level and Evolution is at the junior/senior 
level. This upper-division course has limited enrollment of 12, and includes a 
focus on writing.



Required Qualifications:

  *   A Ph.D. and relevant teaching experience are preferred, though candidates 
who are ABD will be considered.
  *   Evidence of a solid instructional record is required. There are no 
research or service responsibilities associated with this position, but space 
and supplies for research may be available.
  *   Educators at Linfield College are dedicated to teaching in a liberal arts 
environment and the Biology Department is collegial and dynamic.
