Job Title: Career Track, STEM Assistant Professor of Practice - Agricultural 
Education (1.0 FTE)

Position Summary: The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) invites 
applications and nominations for the 12-month, career-track position of 
Assistant Professor of Practice with responsibilities in teaching, scholarship, 
and service in the Department of Agricultural Education. This faculty member 
will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in applied STEM (science, 
technology, engineering, and mathematics) teacher education, agriculture 
technology management, as well as courses in leadership and communication. The 
hire will also advise and mentor undergraduate students and serve on graduate 
student committees. The position will require the supervision of student and 
new teachers in the field; pursuit of scholarship that assesses the effects of 
the integration, explanation, or emphasis of STEM principles in agriculture and 
science educational curricula, events, and programs. The hire will contribute 
to the advancement in the curricular areas of agriculture and science 
education, agriculture technology management, and leadership & communication 
offered by the department.
In addition, the hire will reflect efforts in the service mission of the 
university and college by participating in service/outreach related activities; 
provide leadership and technical support to school-based agricultural education 
programs, community colleges, department and professional committees, and 
related stakeholder groups. Lastly, the hire is expected to provide services 
and support to the campus, college and other academic units within the College 
of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Major Duties & Responsibilities: The successful candidate for this position is 
expected to contribute to the applied STEM teacher preparation program, and 
leadership and communication curriculum within the unit. Specifically, the hire 
will: 1) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in agricultural/science 
education, and leadership & communication; 2) recruit, advise and mentor 
undergraduate and graduate students; 3) conduct appropriate service activities 
on and off campus; 4) lead in the development of a diverse suite of program 
offerings that contribute to the State's need for highly qualified and 
motivated STEM teachers; and 5) participate in scholarship-related activities. 
The hire must possess an ability and desire to work in a team environment when 
teaching, recruiting, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate 
students. The normal teaching workload in the Department will reflect the CALS 
faculty guidelines (https://cals.arizona.edu/about/workplace/faculty-workload) 
for teaching; adjusted by the unit administrator to best reflect the job 
description and appointment.



Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in agricultural education or Career and Technical Education 
(CTE) or a related discipline area.

Three years of secondary agricultural education (or related area) teaching 
experiences, and deep familiarity and experiences with youth organizations 
(e.g., FFA, 4-H).

The position requires a deep understanding of and experiences in developing 
curricula specific to the processes underpinning teacher preparation in 
agriculture and science education, curriculum development, instructional 
strategies, online instruction, pedagogy/andragogy, principles of teaching and 
learning, computer skills, and major forms of communication.

Possession of a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and 
availability to travel statewide, regionally, and nationally upon employment.



Preferred Qualifications:

An earned Doctoral degree in agricultural education or CTE or an equivalent 
closely related field.

Five years of secondary agricultural education (or related area) teaching 
experiences, and deep familiarity and experiences with youth organizations 
(e.g., FFA, 4-H).
