The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking a wildlife technician to 
conduct surveys for ~30 bird, mammal, and herpetofauna Species of 
Greatest Conservation Need within the Chain Lakes Wildlife Habitat 
Management Area in central Wyoming. Surveys will include avian point 
counts, mark-recapture small mammal trapping, amphibian aural surveys, 
mammalian scat and burrow surveys, and managing acoustic bat survey 
equipment.

This position will require primitive tent camping and RV camping, 
generally without phone service, running water, or electricity. The work 
schedule will vary (including long hours, weekends, and nights, as 
needed). Completion of job duties may periodically require long days in 
the field for up to 10 days at a time. Technicians will be required to 
work independently and in a team of two.

 Position dates: April 1 - August 31, 2018

Desired knowledge, skills and abilities:
1.     Experience conducting breeding bird point counts, able to 
identify western bird species of sagebrush steppe, riparian, and wetland 
habitats by sight and sound
2.     Live-trap, handle, and identify small mammal species
3.     Identify herpetofauna of central Wyoming by sight and sound
4.     Identify western plant species and experience collecting habitat 
data
5.     Close attention to detail for data collection, entry, and 
proofing, with a demonstrated ability to follow protocol
6.     Hike long distance off-trail in challenging conditions with 
potentially hazardous wildlife, including rattlesnakes
7.     Proficiency navigating with maps and a handheld global 
positioning system
8.     Communicate with a variety of individuals, including agency and 
industry personnel, as well as the general public

Preferences/Agency Requirements**:

Preference will be given to those with a high school degree plus 2 years 
of experience in fish and wildlife resource management, research, or 
habitat development or 2 years of college course work towards a 
baccaluareate degree in wildlife management, or another closely related 
field. **Must have a valid driver's license.

Pay: $14.82/hour
Field Vehicle: Provided
Housing: The home station of this position is Lander, Wyoming. A tent or 
camper will be provided during field work at Chain Lakes WHMA when 
overnight camping is required, however, housing in Lander will not be 
provided.
