Erik, I don't see the word "retract" anywhere in Pyron's statement. (Nor "withdraw," "repudiate," etc.)
Furthermore, I find it hard to square "the headlines inserted for the piece for publication said ... that 'we should only worry about preserving biodiversity when it helps us.' I did not write these words" (statement on lab website) with "Conservation is needed for ourselves and only ourselves" (original article).
