The Ryals Laboratory in the Life and Environmental Sciences Unit at the University of California, Merced is seeking an exceptional Ph.D. student. The student will participate in on-going and emerging areas of research related to ecological approaches to sanitation, climate-smart agriculture, and soil carbon sequestration. The student is encouraged to develop an original research project. There is an opportunity to connect science to grand sustainability challenges through involvement in the lab’s collaborations with Sustainable Organic Integrated Livelihoods (SOIL<https://www.oursoil.org/>) in Haiti, waste managers in California, and ranchers in California and Hawaii. Preference will be given to an applicant with B.Sc. or M.Sc. in ecosystem ecology, soil science, or biogeochemistry and those with field and/or laboratory experience.
