Good morning Ecologgers:

I pose this query to the collective wisdom with the hope of getting some
ideas/leads on where I might pursue funding for my upcoming sabbatical. In the
Univ of Maryland System, they will give us one semester paid and one unpaid.
If I can come up with funding for the unpaid semester, I can have the luxury of
having 16 months of uninterrupted time to do all of the things I have planned.
I recently have called NSF and talked to 3 different offices there asking about
funding for sabbaticals, but evidently they do not have a separate program for
sabbaticals. From what I could gather from these folks, you have to include the
sabbatical as part of a larger research grant proposal. If this is inaccurate,
someone please tell me. Are there any other federal, state, foundational, NGO,
or other programs which fund sabbaticals (for science) that anyone knows of out
there? I am aware of Fulbright opportunities through the State Dept, as well
as Guggenheim Fellowships. Any thoug!
hts, ideas, leads will be most appreciated!!!

Finally, I do apologize in advance if this topic recently has been
discussed or otherwise covered on Ecolog-L. Due to continued problems with my
email provider (comcast), I have not been able to maintain connectivity with
Ecolog-L, so I have been out of the Ecolog-L loop for awhile. In any event,
many, many thanks for your help with this very important issue!

Sincerely,
