Avila University is seeking applicants with experience in the field of genomics for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology appointment to begin August, 2018. Responsibilities include teaching the introductory biology sequence (cells, genes, ecology, and evolution), as well as upper- level biology electives and associated labs. Candidates for the Assistant Professor position will work closely with other science faculty to establish and meet departmental goals, including (1) ensuring a rigorous undergraduate research program for Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB), and Pre-Health students; (2) providing Biology, BMB, and Pre- Health students with cutting-edge exposure to the full scope of contemporary biological inquiry; and (3) Anticipating exciting new directions in the rapidly changing field of biology.
The successful candidate will apply innovative teaching techniques to course content and will supervise undergraduate research for biology and related majors. Other specific responsibilities include: • Teach 12 credit hours or the equivalent per semester. • Participate in curriculum development. • Engage in service to the university, including participation in faculty, staff, school, and departmental meetings. • Provide academic advising for areas such as biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, and pre-health students. • Assist with recruitment and retention of students to STEM programs. • Participate in professional activities including research and attendance at workshops and meetings. • Be active and keep current in one’s academic discipline. • Engage in service to the community.
