The Department of Biology at Radford University invites applications for a 
tenure-track 
teaching and research faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank in the 
fields of 
behavioral ecology, animal behavior, comparative behavior, or similar, 
beginning Fall 2018.

Required qualifications include a broadly trained biologist with training and 
experience in 
ecology. A Ph.D. in biology, ecology or related field is required. Candidates 
must have 
completed the Ph.D. degree by the August 10, 2018 start date. Candidates are 
expected to 
establish and maintain an active research program involving undergraduate 
students and 
contribute to university service. Preference will be given to candidates with 
interest in 
ecological aspects of behavior. Previous teaching experience preferred. Area of 
specialty 
is open but should complement current research interests in the department. 
Teaching 
responsibilities equate to a 4:4 teaching load and may include ecology, 
conservation 
biology, comparative behavior, introductory biology, and elective courses in 
the 
candidate’s area of expertise.

The Department of Biology is focused on excellence in undergraduate teaching 
and has 
committed to the ideals of Vision & Change, and will work over the coming years 
to better 
align our curriculum and instruction with those ideals. We have recently been 
awarded a 
Howard Hughes Medical Institute Inclusive Excellence grant to use the maker 
movement to 
improve student retention and inclusion, and we have been chosen to participate 
in the 
Council on Undergraduate Research Transformations project to revise our 
curriculum to 
enhance in-class research opportunities for all students. Our faculty are also 
promoting 
quantitative literacy through the Quantitative Undergraduate Biology Education 
and 
Synthesis (QUBES) program and have participated in the SouthEast Regional PULSE
