Assistant/Associate Professor

WORK LOCATION: Department of Entomology, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, 
Louisiana.

ACADEMIC RANK: Assistant/Associate Professor (anticipated), twelve-
month, tenure track appointment, research (50%), teaching (30%), and 
extension/outreach (20%) responsibilities.


POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Department of Entomology at Louisiana State 
University invites applications for a tenure-track Insect Systematist 
and Diagnostician at the Assistant Professor rank. Candidates with a 
broad range of taxonomic and research interests will be considered, 
including (but not limited to) specimen-based revisionary systematics, 
phylogenomics, biodiversity informatics, conservation, and entomology 
research collecting and field work. The successful candidate will serve 
as the Director of the Louisiana State Arthropod Museum and will be 
expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized, 
extramurally funded research program. Collaboration with existing 
departmental faculty working in the areas of insect physiology, behavior 
and ecology, urban entomology, medical/veterinary entomology, 
toxicology, population genetics, integrated pest management, biological 
control, and plant-insect interactions will also be expected. The 
successful candidate will participate in graduate student training as a 
member of the Graduate Faculty of Louisiana State University, and will 
be required to teach a course in Insect Taxonomy and Systematics as well 
as courses in general entomology and his/her area of specialty. Outreach 
and extension responsibilities include diagnostics of current, emerging, 
and invasive insect pests, delivery of insect-related information and 
education via outreach and citizen science, and specimen repository 
support for departmental and external research programs.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The applicant must have a Ph.D. degree in 
entomology or closely related biological discipline at the time of 
employment and research experience in morphological and molecular 
(including genomic) character systems, phylogenetic analysis, 
entomological fieldwork and modern, specimen-based revisionary 
systematics. Outstanding oral and written communication skills are 
necessary.
