Dear Colleagues,

This year's Paleosociety short course at GSA is titled, "Biogeochemical
Approaches in
Paleobiology and Paleoecology”. The short course will highlight ways in which
stable
isotope and/or elemental analysis of ancient or modern specimens and substrates
can be
used to investigate relevant questions over geohistorical timescales. The
course will cover
a range of taxonomic groups, ecosystems, overarching questions, elemental and
isotopic
methods, and modeling techniques. This short course will provide an opportunity
for
researchers interested in the broad fields of biogeochemistry and paleontology
to discuss
current and future research directions. Students and others new to how
biogeochemical
approaches are applied to paleontology will be introduced to a variety of
studies presented
by researchers with expertise in these fields.

The short course is free of charge, does not require registration to GSA, and
takes place
on the Saturday preceding the conference, October 21, 9am - 5pm. A list of
presenters and
topics are at http://paleosoc.org/2017-ps-short-course-presenters/. If you
would like
addition details, please email [email protected]. Please forward this
email to
students and colleagues who may be interested.

Best,

Erik Gulbranson, Kena Fox-Dobbs, and Sora Kim
