Dear Colleagues, The Ecological Research as Education Network (EREN) is focused on creating and facilitating collaborative ecological research projects that generate high-quality, publishable data involving undergraduate students and faculty across a broad geographic network of research sites. Our philosophy is that coordinated data collection enhances both the scientific and educational power of our ecological work, which includes projects on forest tree growth, turtle sex ratios, invasive plant decomposition, and earthworm distribution, among others. EREN has over 300 members representing over 200 institutions from diverse countries, including Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Columbia, Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas. Our collaborative, multi-site projects on stream temperature dynamics and bird-window collisions have been published in the peer-reviewed literature. Any institution or ecologist is welcome to be part of EREN, but we focus on developing projects that are accessible to undergraduate participation and feasible for institutions with limited research resources.
If you would like to learn more about EREN, please attend the *EREN Brown Bag Lunch at the Ecological Society of America Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon on Wednesday, August 9, 11:30-1:15PM in the Oregon Convention Center, Room A106.* The event will begin with a short presentation introducing EREN to newcomers, and then will transition into open discussion about the joys and challenges of using collaborative ecological projects in research and teaching, and provide opportunities for networking. If you cannot make the Brown Bag Lunch, feel free to visit our website for more information: http://erenweb.org/ Hope to see you there!
