Environmental Educator

The University of Virginia's Blandy Experimental Farm seeks a full-time
Environmental Educator to instruct outdoor education programs for preK-
12 students (fall and spring) and to develop and present summer and
winter programs designed for youth and family audiences. This position
is split between our formal education programs (60%) under the direction
of the Director of Education and informal public programs (40%) under
the direction of the Director of Public Programs.

Blandy Experimental Farm is a 700-acre University of Virginia field
ecology research station situated in the northern Shenandoah Valley,
about 10 miles east of Winchester and 60 miles west of Washington, D.C.
Blandy also is home to the State Arboretum of Virginia, displaying more
than 8000 trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants in a diversity of
habitats including woodlands, meadows, wetlands, and open fields.

Blandy is a regional leader in environmental education that was
designated as a Center for Environmental Education Excellence by the
Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. Our preK-12 programs
draw inspiration from Blandy's active science research program, align
with Virginia's Standards of Learning, and strive to immerse students
and their teachers in authentic, field-based learning experiences. Our
programs are dynamic and innovative; recent program additions focused on
career awareness and the integration of science with mathematics,
language arts, and social science/history.

We are seeking a creative, innovative and dedicated environmental
educator with experience in teaching and creating programs for preK-12
audiences and community youth and families. As a member of the four-
person preK-12 Education Team, the Environmental Educator will teach
environmental education programs to a diversity of grade levels (preK-
12), will participate in program revisions and development of new
programs, and will assist in developing and leading professional
development workshops for preK-12 teachers and other environmental
educators. As a member of the two-person Public Program Team, the
Environmental Educator will develop programming for our 5-day (20
hours/week) Summer Nature Camps and evening and weekend Family Programs.
The Environmental Educator also serves as the Team Leader for the Summer
Nature Camp Group Leaders and volunteers who assist with our Family
Programs.

Applicants will possess a BA/BS degree, preferably in a natural science
or education field, and will have a minimum 2-years' experience working
in the field of environmental education. Experience working with web-
based communication platforms (such as web sites, blogs, and social
media) is preferred, as is a passion for sharing his/her knowledge with
learners of all ages.

Applicants should submit a CV, cover letter, and portfolio that includes
examples of environmental education program work and photos that
highlight involvement with educational programs.

Applications must be submitted in Jobs@UVa by August 3, 2017
