Dear Students, Educators, Community, and Enviro Leaders:

The National Hispanic Environmental Council (NHEC) *is still accepting
applications from students* to attend our upcoming 11th annual "NY
Environmental STEM Institute", to be held June 25—July 2, 2017, at national
parks, forests, wildlife refuges on Staten Island/Long Island. *NHEC
covers all costs to attend.* The Institute will be held and students
housed/fed at Wagner College in Staten Island.

*Regarding eligibility: *as this is a federal program the Institute is open
to *ALL *students from across the U.S. and Puerto Rico; students must be
U.S. Citizens or Legal Permanent Residents.

The NY Environmental STEM Institute is an intensive, residential, strongly
science-based, 8 day long conservation education *and* envir. career
program for top students aged 17-21 deeply interested in the environment
and a related major/career in the sciences.

*Through a full scholarship, NHEC covers ALL costs* for students selected,
including transportation (airfare), housing, meals, science equipment, and
more.

Using an Environmental STEM curriculum students learn a range of
environmental and conservation issues. Students also conduct Environmental
Field Studies (air, soil, water testing, biological assessments, birding,
more) using high-tech science equipment.

The major sponsor for the NY Institute is the U.S. Forest Service, Eastern
Region, with support from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service
and U.S. EPA. Thus students also learn about federal internships/jobs with
these agencies and others, and how to apply.

*JOBS: the US Forest Service is offering PAID FEDERAL JOBS FOR THIS
SUMMER to qualified Institute students!! *If hired (must be at least 18)
students will do conservation work at one of several national forests. FS
staff will be at the Institute to hold interviews. *If hired, airfare and
housing is provided*. Students do a range of highly educational, hands-on
environmental and science work “in the field”.

*So if you are passionate about the environment, enjoy science, have a
minimum 3.0 GPA, AND been seeking a job in the enviro arena, this program
is for you. *

NHEC reviews applications and selects students on a rolling basis until all
slots are filled. *But students are strongly urged to apply asap*. Again,
slots still remain for this program.

Lastly, we ask you to forward this email to interested parties, including
qualified students, educators, high schools, colleges, youth organizations,
and more. We thank you for your help.
