Lecturer
 
The University of Iowa Department of Geographical & Sustainability 
Sciences invites applications for the position of Lecturer. We seek a 
highly motivated educator interested in innovative, evidence-based 
strategies for teaching physical geography and geographic information 
science (e.g., flipped classroom, team-based learning, experiential 
learning, online and blended delivery).
 
Specific instructional assignments will depend on the candidate’s 
expertise consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and 
students. Teaching will include both lower and middle division courses, 
as well as in-class and on-line formats. The appointment will begin in 
August 2017.
 
A PhD in Geography or related field is required at the time of 
appointment. Salary is commensurate with the experience and 
qualifications of the candidate. The initial appointment will be at the 
Lecturer level with possibility of advancement

Required
PhD in Geography or related field
Ability to teach introductory courses in physical geography and 
geographic information science
Ability to teach intermediate courses in physical geography or geographic 
information science
Proven record of teaching excellence
Interest in evidence-based and online education

History of offering successful online courses
Knowledge of evidence-based educational practices
Active research program in physical geography or geographic information 
science
