Research Assistant, Grassland Ecology - Konza Prairie LTER Program, Division of 
Biology, Kansas State University.

We seek a full-time research assistant for the Konza Prairie Long-Term 
Ecological Research (LTER) program. Duties include assisting with field 
operations and sampling for grassland ecological studies, including climate 
manipulation experiments, fire and grazing studies, and related research 
projects at Konza Prairie Biological Station; assists with set-up and 
maintenance of field experiments, construction and installation of field 
equipment (e.g., rainout shelters), maintenance of experimental treatments, 
field measurements of plant and soil characteristics, downloading and 
processing of sensor data; assists with collection and processing of soil and 
plant samples; installs and maintains environmental sensors and data loggers; 
maintains field and laboratory records and data sheets; coordinates activities 
of student research assistants.

Requires B.S. in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Sciences or related field; 
experience with ecological methods, including installation and maintenance of 
field equipment, and collection and processing of plant and soil samples; 
ability to work outdoors under moderately challenging conditions; valid 
driver's license; basic computer skills, including Excel spreadsheets, and 
ability to work in a team environment.  Preferred qualifications include M.S. 
in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Sciences or related field, or equivalent 
experience in ecological research; experience in use of field environmental 
sampling equipment (environmental sensors, portable infrared gas analyzer for 
soil CO2 flux, neutron probes, hydraulic corer, etc.), experience with Campbell 
Scientific data loggers, and familiarity with grassland ecology.

Initial appointment will be for 1 year with annual renewals possible contingent 
upon satisfactory performance and continued funding. The minimum annual salary 
for this position is $33,436 + benefits. Actual salary will be determined based 
on the candidate's experience, education, internal equity and available
