Greetings, We are thinking of using an erosion control blanket in a grassland community assembly experiment, but wonder about the potential effects on nutrient cycling. The "blanket" is made of Aspen fibers. We need something that will hold seeds in place during the first year of plant establishment. If you have any thoughts on the potential rates of decomposition in a Kansas grassland and short/longer term effects of the aspen fibers on soils, please contact me off-list.
