About the Loxahatchee River District: The Loxahatchee River District (LRD), an independent special district of the State of Florida, is dedicated to the protection, preservation and restoration of the Loxahatchee River, one of two federal Wild & Scenic rivers in Florida. LRD works to fulfill its mission by providing innovative wastewater solutions, conducting river research and monitoring, and environmental education. LRD’s WildPine Ecological Laboratory performs compliance monitoring for our wastewater treatment plant, and conducts extensive monitoring/research throughout the Loxahatchee River watershed in the areas of water quality, seagrass, and oyster reefs.
Primary Function: The Senior Scientist position is an advanced level position in the WildPine Laboratory. Primary duties include performance of work requiring advanced knowledge, consistent exercise of discretion and judgement, scientific data analysis, report and manuscript preparation, research project and study design, laboratory analysis of nutrients, and field data collection. This position reports to the Laboratory Manger and works in collaboration with the Division Director and Executive Director. Support river and water reclamation research and monitoring programs 2. Scientific data management and statistical analysis 3. Report and manuscript preparation 4. Laboratory analysis 5. Field data collection 6. Mentor and manage the student intern/volunteer program 7. Analysis of existing data and generation of publication on the Loxahatchee River 8. Other duties may be required and assigned Key Competencies: Excellent scientific writing and data analysis skills; Strong experience in scientific report and manuscript preparation, publications in peer reviewed journals; Strong experience designing and implementing water quality research and study projects ;Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with and mentoring colleagues, strong team leadership, and engaging the public; Laboratory experience performing nutrient analysis utilizing sophisticated instrumentation; Excellent field data collection skills and experience; Strong time management and organizational skills; Demonstrated teamwork, self- motivation, integrity, and commitment to maintaining high professional standards. Experience/Education: Minimum of 4 years’ experience performing related activities and tasks. OR A combination of education and experience Minimum of a Master’s degree; Ph.D. degree preferred. Valid Florida’s Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one. Must be proficient with standard computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, and statistical analysis. Degree of Physical Effort and Environment: Perform laboratory and field work in all types of weather and water conditions. Must be a strong swimmer. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, stoop, walk, grasp, kneel, hear, stand, climb, and reach. Selected candidate must pass pre-employment physical.
