Greetings ECOLOGers,

I recently moved to southern CA and with work authorization in hand, I'm
looking for part-time and/or short-term field and lab work opportunities in
or around the LA basin or northward to Santa Barbara area. Ideally paid, of
course, but not totally necessary for short-term jobs.

A quick overview:
- Experience over different taxa: insect communities, fish and aquatic
insects, amphibians, passerines, soil, seed collection, microbial ecology
(birds, eggs, nests and soil)
- International field work experience (Amazon, Costa Rica, western Canada,
East Africa, Netherlands)
- Fairly standard genetics bench skills (DNA extraction, PCR, DGGE)
- Reasonable quantitative skills (published modelling paper) with plenty of
statistical background
- Clean driver's abstract, 4WD, standard/automatic, quad experience on
rough/backcountry roads
- Solid camping experience and gear

I've just been working outside academe for 4 1/2 years since my MSc and am
looking to sharpen up, make some contacts, and get my hands dirty again
with the intention to be applying for PhD positions.

If you happen to know of anyone looking - or might be yourself - please let
me know via direct email (off the listserv).

Many thanks,
Susan Cousineau

“Education, if it means anything, should not take people away from land,
but instill in them even more respect for it, because educated people are
in a position to understand what is being lost. The future of the planet
concerns all of us, and we should do what we can to protect it. As I told
the foresters, and the women, you don't need a diploma to plant a tree."
