Status: Full Time, Seasonal, Non-Exempt (80% office work and 20% field work)

Arizona Conservation Corps (AZCC):
Arizona Conservation Corps, a program of Conservation Legacy, aims to
continue the legacy of
the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s. AZCC is focused on
connecting youth, young
adults and recent era military veterans with conservation service work
projects on public lands.
Our programs promote professional and personal growth, experiential
learning, and an ethic of
natural resource stewardship while incorporating the guiding principles
of community,
dedication, challenge, integrity and fun! AZCC programs empower
individuals to positively
impact their lives, while fostering conservation service in support of
communities and
ecosystems. AZCC has program offices in Flagstaff and Tucson.
Position Summary:
The Department of the Interior has new policy (Landscape-Scale
Mitigation Policy 600 DM 6)
and BLM has forthcoming policy regarding mitigation. The position will
support the BLM field
office National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Coordinator with an
emphasis on mitigation.
The position will aid the NEPA Coordinator in educating the BLM
interdisciplinary team on this
new policy.
Essential Responsibilities and Functions:
● Assist the lead Planning and Environmental Coordinator with
incorporating the mitigation
hierarchy into land use plan and NEPA documents.
● Assist with the review of draft land use planning and NEPA documents
for consistency
with regulations and policies, including DOI and BLM mitigation policies.
● Assist with the identification of opportunities for landscape-level
mitigation, for example,
reviewing adjacent area plans for inconsistencies.
● Coordinate mitigation training opportunities or large document review
processes (e.g.,
provide logistics support and assist with training development and
review procedures).
● Tracking and reviewing Federal mitigation policy development (other
agencies, CEQ,
etc.).
● Entering land use plan, NEPA, and mitigation-related documents into
the BLM’s national
database.
● Assist with public review and outreach efforts (e.g., meeting
logistics, material
development support).
● Assist the Planning and Environmental Coordinator with the review of
projects proposed
within Areas of Critical Environmental Concern and work with project
leads to
incorporate mitigation strategies into projects.
● Photo documentation of unanticipated project impacts and problem
areas. Photos will be used to demonstrate typical problem areas to
project leads and resource specialists and then to generate appropriate
mitigation strategies addressing problem areas.
General Qualifications:
Applicants should have a degree in environmental policy, natural
resource management, restoration ecology, or related fields.
The applicant must have strong written and oral skills and experience
in the Microsoft Office suite.
Applicants demonstrating strong organizational skills will be
considered highly qualified.
The applicant should also have experience working as part of a team
and be able to work well with others.
The successful applicant will also attend CPR, First Aid training and
Defensive Driving (or provide certification if still current).
Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving
record.
Prior to starting this position, a government security background
clearance will be required.
Physical Requirements:
Periodic overnight travel and non-traditional work hours, inclusive of
weekend and evening hours. To successfully perform essential functions
the Mitigation Resource Assistant is required to sit, stand, walk, speak
and hear. The Mitigation Resource Assistant may be required to climb,
balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl on an infrequent basis. He/she
must be able to operate office equipment, telephone, and computer and
reach with hands and arms. The Mitigation Resource Assistant may be
required to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. The ability to drive an
organizational vehicle is also required. Reasonable accommodations may
