JOB DESCRIPTION:
Conducts research to support the Weed Science program at the Southwest 
Florida Research and Education Center in Immokalee, FL. The incumbent 
will assist in one or more phases of the research process by performing 
a variety of technical duties in the laboratory, greenhouse, and the 
field. Duties will include but are not limited to:

*Preparing, maintaining and monitoring experimental trials in the 
laboratory, greenhouse, and field. Record experimental results and final 
reports
*Extraction and estimation of herbicides/agricultural chemicals in soil, 
water, and plant samples using analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC 
or other equipment; preparing chemical solutions; maintaining written 
and digital laboratory notebooks, maintaining the laboratory in a way 
that work can be accomplished safely and efficiently. The incumbent will 
also manage experimental equipment and provide technical assistance to 
other weed science related studies.
*Recording, analyzing and summarizing data and preparing graphs and 
tables using the standard or specialized software.
*Assisting in the preparation of written reports and publications and 
reviewing literature pertinent to the research area as deemed 
appropriate by the P.I.
*Assisting with any related duties required, including purchases of 
supplies and services, as determined by the P.I. May also are required 
to visit fields off-site which will require driving a University 
vehicle.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:   
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, agronomy or a closely related 
field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
*Knowledge of the terminology, principles, and techniques used in weed 
science research
*Knowledge of basic principles of analytical chemistry.
*Operational expertise of laboratory analytical instruments, such as 
HPLC, GC or Scintillation counter, will be an additional advantage.
*Basic laboratory skills, including but not limited to analytical 
weighing, liquid transfer, sample preparation, serial dilution, 
treatment application, test evaluation and collection of data.
*Familiarity and interest in conducting greenhouse, controlled  
environment chamber, and field trials with experimental chemicals.
*Familiarity or experience in safely working with chemicals of unknown 
toxicological hazard
*Knowledge of agricultural production systems such as citrus and 
vegetables
*Strict observance and adherence to required and approved safety 
procedures
*Ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, 
PowerPoint, and statistical analysis software such as R or SAS. 
*Knowledge of principles of statistics and experimental design.
*Ability to plan and coordinate research assignments effectively. 
*Ability to adhere to the safe laboratory and other practices.
*Good written and oral communication skills.
