Assistant/Associate Professor of Environmental Science – Applied 
Quantitative Ecologist, Tenure Track, Starting September 1, 2017
Overview

Stockton University is an innovative liberal arts and sciences college 
and is currently ranked among the top ten public Masters institutions in 
the northeast. The University is located in southern New Jersey on 1600 
beautifully wooded acres about one hour from Philadelphia, two hours 
from New York City, three hours from the Baltimore/Washington area, and 
20 minutes from Atlantic City. The University has a diverse array of 
undergraduate programs and the School has several recently approved 
masters programs.  Stockton provides vast opportunities for 
interdisciplinary academic, scholarly, and pedagogic development in the 
sciences and mathematics. We are seeking an outstanding, broadly 
trained, applied field ecologist with a strong quantitative background 
to join us as of September 1, 2017.  Candidates must have a strong 
dedication to teaching and scholarship in a natural science and liberal 
arts environment.

Existing research facilities include a campus arboretum and farm, nearly 
2,000 acres of actively managed forest on campus (including a 25-acre 
lake), greenhouse facilities, as well as GIS and HPC facilities. We are 
located in the relatively undeveloped Pine Barrens, a region that is 
undergoing pressures on water resources that create opportunities for 
collaborative research with federal, state, and local agencies, as well 
as a wide array of non-profit conservation organizations and private 
consultants.

Responsibilities

Teaching load is 12 credit hours/semester, with most courses carrying 4 
- 6 hours of teaching credit.  Primary teaching responsibilities may 
include, but are not limited to, the teaching of undergraduate and 
graduate field-oriented courses in any area of ecology (including 
quantitative methods), an undergraduate program core course in 
Ecological Principles (lecture and lab), and participation in the 
University’s General Studies offerings. Candidates with a focus on 
biodiversity initiatives, a strong quantitative background, and/or GIS 
and remote sensing experience are strongly encouraged to apply. The 
successful candidate will also be encouraged to develop a research 
program supported by external grants and fostering faculty-mentored 
student collaboration. The College provides several competitive internal 
grant programs to provide project initiation. 
Qualifications

Ph.D. required and post-doctoral experience would be a plus.
