Unity College (Maine) is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor of Fisheries Science and Management. This is a permanent, full-time position focused supporting students in our Wildlife and Fisheries Management Program.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION Unity College in Maine is seeking to fill a faculty position in its Ecology and Management Program in the School of Biodiversity Conservation. Unity - America's Environmental College - is a small, liberal arts college dedicated to transdisciplinary teaching and scholarship in sustainability science. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Deliver Fisheries, Ecology and Biology courses as assigned to support the Wildlife & Fisheries Management, Wildlife Biology, Biology and Marine Biology majors as appropriate. Advise and mentor undergraduate students that are intent on pursuing careers in Wildlife and Fisheries, Ecology, Biology and Marine Biology, or other related fields Develop new courses and revising curriculum for the Wildlife & Fisheries Management major. Contribute to faculty service needs as assigned. Serve on campus committees as appropriate given position responsibilities. Contribute to the college's commitment to sustainability. The ideal candidate for this position will have: Ph.D degree in fisheries or related field. Previous teaching experience. Proficient with the use of most types of fishing gear, including but not limited to, electrofishing (backpack and boat), trap nets, gill nets, pot gears, and seines. Be able to tow, launch and operate a small boat as well as complete minor engine repairs. Valid driver's license and ability to drive college vehicles. Experience working with a state or federal fisheries agency or the private industry. Be familiar with the permitting application and reporting processes required for marine and aquatic work.
