Open position: 1 PhD student on the "Ecology of crop protection
 against insect pests in agriculture"

The successful applicant will enter a dynamic and internationally distinguished research environment (_www.slu.se/riccardo-bommarco_ _www2.ekol.slu.se/ecoservices/__)_ , and will explore the ecology underpinning population regulation and dynamics of interacting damaging and beneficial arthropods in agricultural landscapes, and based on this, develop, test and promote sustainable pest control practices as part of IPM in major crops in Sweden.

*Qualifications: *ApplicantsshouldhaveaMaster'sdegree(orequivalent)in biology, agronomy, environmentalscienceorsimilarsubjectswithspecializationinecology,andshouldbeinterestedinpopulation ecology and developing applications based on ecological understanding and experimentation.

Applicants are expected to provide (i) a motivation letter, (ii) CV, (iii) certified copies of degree certificates, (iv) copy of a dissertation at second-cycle level, corresponding at least 15 HEC,,(v) if the applicant is a foreign citizen, a certified copy of the passport must be attached and (vi) a list of referees and their contact information.

The centre includes the DepartmentofEcology whereweconductresearchand education forsustainableagriculture, forestproductionandbiologicalconservation.Ourbasic researchonpopulations,communitiesandecosystemsformsthefoundationforunderstanding the impact oflanduseandclimateonanimals,plants,soilnutrientstatusandgreenhousegasbalance.Solutionsaresoughtthatwillmitigateclimatechange,preservethreatenedspecies,benefitbiologicaldiversityandecosystemservicesandcontrolpestsinmanaged agricultural, forested and urbanlandscapes. Active dissemination, outreach and frequent contacts with stakeholders are key activities. The University strives to achieve an even gender balance.
