Dear Colleagues, York University and one of the campuses from the University of Toronto are collaborating this Fall - through teaching. We are collecting basic data on transects at 5 different habitat types on our campuses in the labs of our second-year ecology courses. The purpose is to provide students with the opportunity to begin to build up long-term data about the places we often spend a significant proportion of our time. The sampling is all done on transects, and the students are primarily collecting data on abundance changes but will capture a phenological signal too.
The protocol and shared data are all here: http://www.campusecology.network If you are interested in trying this in one of your courses too, please send me an email. We would love to have a few more school try this idea. We are teaching data management, meta-data, and publishing all the data too with the students. cheers, chris lortie.
