Title: Flatwoods Salamander Drift Fence Technician, Florida Panhandle

 Job Description:

Candidate will work with Virginia Tech to assist with research, monitoring, and 
management of reticulated flatwoods salamanders on Eglin Air Force Base, 
Florida.  Position will require working a combination of days/nights in 
Fall/Winter in potentially adverse conditions (cold, rain, wind).  
Responsibilities will include running drift fences at federally endangered 
reticulated flatwoods salamander breeding ponds, conducting dipnet surveys and 
night-time spotlighting surveys for larval flatwoods salamanders, data 
entry/proofing, and other duties with other project components as time allows.  
Candidate must be able to work in standing water using hip waders, perform 
detail work late at night while wet and cold, and be comfortable working around 
venomous snakes.  Work will begin in October or early November and will 
continue into December 2016, or possibly as late as March or April.  A second 
position may be available starting in mid- to late-February and extending until 
April or May.  Candidates may work 1-2 days week operating camera traps at 
gopher tortoise burrows. Please send a cover letter and resume, including names

 Qualifications:

Strongly prefer applicants with B.S. in Wildlife Science or related field; 
previous experience working with amphibians, especially ambystomatid 
salamanders, or experience handling federally threatened or endangered species; 
experience running drift fences; experience marking amphibians using VIE and/or 
PIT tags; experience operating camera traps, working on a military 
installation, and operating 4WD vehicles.

Applicants must have previous natural resource field experience, valid driver's 
license, demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively; 
successful applicants will be adaptable, detail-oriented, enthusiastic, 
comfortable working on an active military base, comfortable working alone at 
night, and able to work harmoniously with others.  

Salary: $10-$12/hr
