Research Specialist in Forest Carbon Analytics and Remote Sensing

Position: The USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station and University
of Minnesota, Department of Forest Resources are seeking a Research
Specialist (Researcher 5) to support forest carbon accounting reporting and
research for the United States’ National Greenhouse Gas Inventory. The
Specialist will assist a team of scientists and analysts from the USDA
Forest Service and University of Minnesota to compile estimates of carbon
stocks and stock changes in forest ecosystems for national and international
reporting instruments. The position is available immediately and includes
two years of funding and health insurance. Future funding is contingent on
satisfactory progress and success in securing additional funds.

Qualifications: M.S. in forestry, remote sensing, natural resources, or a
closely related field. The ideal applicant will have experience with
analyzing remote sensing data (e.g., Landsat and lidar) and Forest Inventory
and Analysis data collected in the US. Applicants should also have a strong
work ethic, be able to work independently and cooperatively with researchers
and analysts, and have a demonstrated writing and quantitative capability.
