Dear ECOLOGers
Though the tiger numbers throughout the world are decreasing, in Nepal, the
tigers are increasing. Thanks to the Nepalese government and the non
governmental conservation agencies for their strong commitments and efforts
to protect this iconic species, however people surrounding the tiger
habitats in Nepal are loosing due to this magnificent species the tigers in
the form of livestock depredation and human casualties (directly) and crop
loss by the prey of tigers (indirectly). Economic losses are mostly borne
by farmers/pastoralist who are the poorest people in the world, while
benefit from tiger conservation are bagged to hoteliers, restaurant owners
and other tourism entrepreneurs. Federation University (Australia) is
doing a research to establish an equitable benefit sharing mechanism
between different stakeholders of the tiger conservation. To support this
research project we are gathering fund through crowd funding. Please see
the link below and help this *People and Tiger* project in Nepal. Please
also spread the link to your network.
